Day 1: Hong Kong Adventure

April 1, 2012

From our flight from Dubai to Manila, we chose the Cathay Pacific flight with the longest stop-over in HK (16 hrs). For most this is quite absurd but our mission is to visit Mickey and friends at HK Disneyland without added expenses like air tickets and accommodation. Another plus that we learned later is that there is discounted Tourist Pass at HK$ for same day inbound and outbound flights.

We arrived at HK Airport around 6am and headed to the immigration area. Since we have Philippines’ passports, we don’t need a visa for the next 7 days (I only need less than a day). Then to the bathroom to change clothes and some grooming things, no place to take a bath but if you really want there is an option at the airport itself  but of course you need to pay.

breakfast @ Maxim’s

We had breakfast at Maxim’s inside HK Airport and by the time we finished it’s almost 8am. We headed to the take the bus to City Outlets (it’s still closed by that time) and took MTR (train) from Tung Chung to Sunny Bay (1 train station) and transfer to a special HK Disneyland train.

Tung Chung Station beside City Outlets

specially dedicated Disney train at Sunny Bay Station

We arrived at HK Disneyland past 9am and since it opens at 10am, we got extra time to take pictures and video on the outer entrance, fountain and main entrance. There is also a locker area near the main entrance at HK$60 for each bag, so we stuffed all our hand carried things in one bag (it pays to have a big knapsack).

HK Disneyland

We stayed in HK Disneyland until 3pm (a separate post is needed for HK Disneyland), fatigue wins over and we headed back to City Outlets. There we ate at Food Republic, roam around City Outlets and headed back to the airport by 6pm. We still have 4 hours to wait and rest till our flight to Manila.

So tired (imagine 8 hrs flight from Dubai to HK + 5 hrs HK Disneyland + 5 hrs travel, transfer, etc) but the trip and memories were all worth it.

That’s actually a nice layover despite not getting any rest from all the traveling. But I’m sure Disneyland is worth it. I’ve actually been to HKG twice now. But I’m saving to visit it for later so that I can enjoy it with the whole family. :) Anyway, glad you enjoyed it there.

16-hour stop-over! I won’t take a pause too if I were in your shoe and make use of that time to see as much places as I could without added expense on the airfare :)

Great way to make use of long layover time. But it looks so tiring though I’m sure you saved a lot by taking this route. Quite fun too, that is if the kids are willing.

I’ve never been to places outside the Philippines because we simply could not afford it. With the meager income that we earn and four kids, we’d rather save up for their education. But given the opportunity, Hongkong would be among our destinations (Vatican City and South Korea are at the top of our list).

Your stopover sounds it was very long and tiring but it also looks like it was well worth it :)

Sana magkaroon na rin ng Disneyland dito sa Pinas (sabi nila sa subic daw magkakaroon na) para hindi na magastos pumunta ng disneyland. hehehe

Hubby and I had out honeymoon in HK and Macau. Of course, we just had to stop by Disneyland. It was ok. I’m actually more excited to visit back again once my Little One appreciated Mickey and gang. But if it’s a return trip with just us adults, I think I’ll pass. It’s really targeted more for the kiddies. =)

I enjoyed myself more at Universal Studios Singapore. =)
