The Places: Bintan

Been there.

Bintan is one of the many islands of Indonesia. If you think Philippines with 7107 islands is a lot, then imagine Indonesia’s 17508 islands!

I went there in 2009 with 2 of my best buddies, Tess and Len. Coming from Singapore it is just a 45 minutes ferry ride.

So from Singapore we rode a ferry from the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal it costs around 43 SGD (Singaporean Dollar) for a round trip. We don’t have prior arrangements as per the ferry ride or resort accommodation, we were just like backpackers. Upon arrival to Bintan, we were asked to go through the usual immigration procedures and since we are of South Asian Passport holder no visa is required (I don’t know about other nationalities). Then on the same terminal, we looked for the available resort packages. We get into Nirwana Resort with free transfer and breakfast for only 50 SGD per person. We just stayed there overnight, it is a small island with only the beach to see and enjoy. We stayed in a cavana on caravan parks.

For the food, that will be another post but of course they are famous of their Nasi Goreng and other spicy (again) dishes.

The trip was very relaxing and since we came there on a weekday only a few tourists were around. But come weekends, the island is famous for water sports and live parties.

Don’t be surprised if they bill you half a million rupiah for a lunch for 3, because 1PhP is around 220 IDR (Indonesian Rupiah).

Wow! Sweet! I have been to Singapore a long time ago and I really look forward to flying back there again.

Never been to Indonesia but I am thinking of spending a week there one day.

Oh my!I’ve been wanting to stay at least for a couple of days in a resort. That would be relaxing!

    Enjoy your week!

There is no wonder that Indonesia has many islands compared to the Philippines, for it is bigger than the country PH. I’m used to places like beaches, mountain ranges, cities, temples, buildings, among others, and they are all beautiful, lovely, very pleasant and cool.

I should probably try Bintan na if ever I visit Singapore again. My future in-laws have been telling us to do a side trip here, but our finances doesn’t seem to stretch up to this point of travel. But there will still be a next time. =) Lovely shots by the way!

I will include Bintan on my bucket list. Indonesia indeed looks a lot like Pinas.
